I began adding Essential Oils to my yoga practice as a way to deepen and enhance the practice. Peppermint brought an energizing scent to my morning classes, lemon cleansed and energized the air, while ylang yang and lavender helped to calm and relax clients during Svasana. How To Use with yoga:

Essential oils can be diffused in the air, applied directly to the skin or ingested depending on the oil and desired outcome. (Click the links to get more information about how to safely use the oils in that manner.) Most commonly in a yoga practice one oil is diffused throughout the practice and three are applied throughout the practice. Use a centering oil to begin the practice, move to an energizing oil during the middle of the practice and use a grounding or calming oil in Savasana.

how to use yoga specific blends:

Begin your practice with Anchor and apply to ankles, base of spine, and bottoms of feet to ground yourself in the present. Brings a firm trust in yourself so you can approach your practice and life with calming strength. This blend welcomes you home to yourself.

Mid-practice use Align and apply over your heart, wrists, and the back of your neck to promote feelings of fluidity and awaken the muscles. This centering blend helps you to trust in yourself and stay open to all possibilities. Move through warrior poses, triangle and gate poses.

End with Arise and apply two to three drops on your heart as you end your practice and move through seated twists, closing postures, savasana and meditation. This is an uplifting blend that encourages focus and honoring your body.
